L’Orée du Bois

Duck confit

Verdict: Walk

Very delicious food but on the higher end price point for the area. Desserts fall a little short of expectation but everything else is quite exceptional. Likely will want to come back if I am in the area.

Caramelized onion soup

  • Well known in the area to give the quintessential Gatineau experience. We were immersed in a rustic warmth

  • Phenomenal service by Vincent and the staff - low key really proud of ourselves for conversing in French

  • I’m so glad we opted to have the soup - I typically avoid ordering soup after so many disappointments, but this one was absolutely delicious. Spend the extra money for the Caramelized Onion soup

Mushroom puffed pastry

Duck terrine

Next came the appetizers - we ordered the mushroom puffed pastry and the pork and duck terrine. They’re mushroom wizards - so good

Trout main

  • Duck confit and trout were the keystone dishes of this meal. We’ve never had duck this good. Melt in your mouth goodness and the trout was flaky and moist.

The Grinch drink (tasted like melona)

  • We opted to just have 1 drink - The Grinch. Tasted like Melona honeydew ice cream. Gone in seconds. I’m lucky we have picture evidence of it

  • Just shy of a 9/10 because of the desserts. The superstar main dishes really set up the meal for the match point, but the desserts fell short. The mille-feuille had hints of staleness and the salted caramel creme brullee was a tad too sweet

    • We live a really good life if we can say we’ve had better before. Don’t get us wrong, this was a fantastic meal made by some top talent
