Pho Bang New York
Verdict: Run
Every time we have a visitor or crave some comforting soup, we come here - especially with Montreal’s cold winters. Super aromatic broth with your classic Viet institution.
Type: Pho, Vietnamese
Location: Montreal, QC (Chinatown)
Item: Pho, Bun Bo Hue
Cost: Under $15 per large bowl
Comments:
I must say that this is a staple in Montreal’s chinatown… we always gravitate towards coming here on those cold Canadian days where we need a little bit of comfort
It’s usually packed inside and you can hear the clamour of chopsticks against bowls and chatter all throughout the big dining room
When comparing the other Pho restaurants, I will say that the broth here is more fragrant with those beautiful spices like clove and star anise - it’s delicate but has enough fattiness to hold flavour
Bun Bo Hue is their special that they serve only on weekends and it comes with a surprising amount of meat; it’s definitely more filling than the standard Pho
So far, this is my favourite Pho spot in Montreal (and beats out my Toronto Pho spots as well)
They only take cash so keep that in mind for your next visit; sometimes there’s a decent wait outside
