Bar Otto

Soft shell crab baos

Verdict: Run

Top Japanese fusion food in Montreal. Located right in Griffintown, they have a nice wine menu as well with some unique funky stuff. Their mazeman is amazing.

Comments:

  • We come to Bar Otto probably once every 3-4 months; in a city with a ton of restaurants, that’s a pretty big deal

  • When our friends come from out of town, this is usually a go to spot because they are so unique with some of the modernization of what they are doing with asian foods (i.e. uni and bone marrow mazeman)

  • I will say that the general ramen is some of the best I’ve had in Canada and I particularly love how the broth isn’t crazy salty that I need to chug a litre of water after eating a bowl, but you’re not sacrificing on any flavour

  • My favourite dish is easily the soft shell crab steamed buns - they are crunchy, soft, and utterly delectable

  • For drinks, they are also quite unique + they have a pretty decent wine list where we got introduced the L’Imparfait for the first time and ended up buying a few bottles of the orange wine to go

  • I highly recommend getting the Matcha Yuzu Sake cocktail as they’re super crushable and tasty
