Kao Soy Nimman
Our Verdict: Run
Definitely come here if you are in Chiang Mai. We have A|B tested a few Kao Soy places and this is the only one that is worth mentioning. We love other dishes here too and will come multiple times during the same trip. Very memorable spot.

Comments:
So good that we came here 2x within 3 days. We had tried other spots for Kao Soy and none of them hit the same as this place, mostly because of the broth quality.
Let me take a moment to tell you more about the broth - it was rich in umami from bones being simmered, it had a silky feel from the coconut milk, it was well seasoned but not overdone which made you want to finish all of the soup = they nailed the sweet/salty/herbaceous combination
C wants to only eat this Kao Soy from now on lol
The other dishes at the restaurant are also very well done but don’t come out as fast, likely because they are ordered less so it requires more work to make them a la carte
I very much enjoyed the green curry and thought that those flavours were also top notch to other green curries I have had around the world
One thing that is unique is that they serve these cold refreshing drinks like Pennywort, Gardenia, Chrysanthemum in these old school metal bowls which we thought was a nice touch
Although there are lines, we never felt like the wait was overly long bc there is tons of seating and the turnover of tables is relatively quick
For desserts, they all are quite winning - every time we go the Mango Sticky Rice is sold out… so that has gotta tell you something; but the other iced desserts are extremely delicious including the water chestnut one
The thai omelet we would skip because it is just a big ball of fried stuff without much substance, so we don’t think it’s worth ordering
Remember to order white rice on your own separately if you want it to accompany the soups bc they don’t come automatically
Also, for the chicken satay skewers, the sauces that came with it are actually really nice - I much prefer the cucumber/chilli water as it added this green refreshing note and a little heat
This place does take credit cards :)
