Man Man Unagi Tei

Fly

Large unagi set - $45 SGD

Verdict: Fly

Life-changing experience. If you go early enough in the day (usually for lunch), you might even get a stick of raw real wasabi that you can grind on the spot to pair with the most amazingly grilled unagi that you eat 3 ways. You will be full and it’s better than a lot of the stuff I’ve had in Japan.

Comments:

  • One of the best unagi rice dishes I have ever had - even better than most of the stuff I’ve had in Japan

  • I really loved how they explained that I could have the unagi rice 4 ways:

    • 1st: unagi and rice plain

    • 2nd: unagi rice with scallion, nori, and freshly ground wasabi

    • 3rd: unagi rice with ochazuke (tea) which tasted more like a dashi broth to me but added a ton of complex umami from kelp and seaweed

    • 4th: however way you want to do it!

  • Service is kind of weird in that you are not allowed to order until everyone from your group is at the restaurant… perhaps an odd Japanese custom

  • The drinks are actually great value for money - you can get a pint of premium Japanese beer for $5 which is unheard of in Singapore

  • Definitely going back and definitely bringing friends
