Quan Bui Bistro

Deep fried snakefish with noodles and condiments

Verdict: Walk

Although this was some of the best Vietnamese food I had in HCMC, the place was pretty quiet and it felt like we were the only people there… thus it lacked atmosphere.

Pork belly stew

Comments:

  • Some of the best Vietnamese food I have had, likely because this place is higher end and there was more finesse involved in preparing the food… the price reflects that completely

  • The pork belly stew was incredibly flavourful with so much umami; when served over some white rice, you’re in heaven

  • The deep-fried snake head fish was my favourite dish during my trip to Vietnam - it was perfectly cooked on the inside with a nice crust on the outside, drizzled in a beautiful glaze that enveloped the fish = you then take pieces of that with fresh herbs and veggies, put it inside a rice paper roll, and dunk it in fish sauce… incredible

  • I also thought that the drinks were super delicious: the kale and spinach smoothie I had + the jasmine tea with real flower leaves all made the experience feel like I was a diplomat doing some important international affairs

  • Liked this place a lot and would come back if I was in the area — good thing it’s not too far from a couple of the drinking streets in that part of town
