Verdict: Walk
We’d highly recommend coming here for some good Asian food in the Plateau - I suspect we’ll be recommending this spot to all of our friends visiting Montreal if they are in the neighbourhood and craving something unique.
Type: Indonesian, Malaysian
Location: Montreal, QC (Plateau)
Item: Crispy Fried Mushrooms, Whole Fried Snapper, Beef Short Rib, Malaysian Chicken Curry, Grilled Calamari, Vegan Ground Beef with Endives, Fried Tofu, Assorted Skewers, Pandan Sauce Rice Cakes, Durian-Chocolate Pudding
Cost: ~400 for 4 people, about 10 dishes and 2-3 drinks each
Comments:
Stumbling onto this place was pure chance. We were walking along rue Mont Royal when the new sign caught our eye. Turns out it was their soft launch, but it never felt like they didn’t have their affairs in order (other than that they had sold out of a few select items)
We pretty much asked them to pick the menu for us and chose to get 9-10 dishes for the 4 of us because we wanted a nice breadth of foods
Kevin, the owner, and he shared his story about how he started this place - he’s from Montreal but lived in South East Asia for a while (he also owns Kra Pow in the Plateau)
One of the staff, Tom, had worked in fine dining for over 20 years and was super nice the entire night
Drinks were created by Tao, one of the finalists of Netflix’s Drink Masters; I was pleasantly surprised to find Loirette there which is an amazing beer made from natural winemakers in the Loire Valley (Touraine)
Couple of personal favourites for us were the chicken satay skewers, the Malaysian curry chicken, beef short rib… and the durian-chocolate pudding was absolutely something you should get!
Pure durian flavour with none of the smell. Plus it’s vegan!
One of our guests was visiting from out of town and had never had this kind of food but was raving about it even the following day
