Run

Green shakshuka

Probably one of the best eats in Launceston and even Tasmania. We had such good food but also amazing hospitality. We got a quick tour of the space by the owner and loved hearing about the history of the place. Highly recommend coming here if you pass through Launnie.

Comments:

  • You’ve got to come here. You’ve got the trifecta - 1. Food was delicious, 2. Service & people was fantastic, 3. Space was obsession-worthy.

  • 1. Maybe some of the best eats in Launceston. Delicious food that was unpretentious and just good for the soul.

    • Green shakshuka was addicting when dipped with the bread. The chutney that came with it enhances the flavour beyond the initial bite.

    • Beetroot omelette with hummus was great. Love the incorporation of the sunflower seed with the beet and greens inside.

    • Easily the best coffee we’ve had in Launceston. Ethiopian blend that sang it’s fruity tune. Flat white was delicious as well. Right blend of bitter and creamy. All roasted in house.

  • 2. Staff were so friendly and attentive. Best of all was overhearing the

  • 3. An artfully executed space with designs that can stand on their own, yet go so well together. Behind the design:

    • Gorgeous mixing of materials with conscious intent to soften the concrete flooring with wood aspects. They carried the industrial theme with metal chain curtains in their mezzanine space and the gorgeous metalwork that was emblazoned with the Ethiopian pattern (more about the pattern significance below).

      • The pattern is found on all from the coffee cups in Ethiopia where it didn’t matter how rich or poor you were, you’d drink from the same type of cup with the same pattern.

    • Arch, one of the owners, insisted there be angles - to the bane of her contractors, but bless her foresight. It created such an interesting and unique place that brought a new architect friend such joy.

    • She also wanted to keep the history of the building - the first movie theatre in Launceston. The first ever movie to be screened here is forever immortalized as the poster at the top of the stairs.

    • Used pressed plywood made in Tasmania as the flooring for their mezzanine - won them the an award

    • Leftover plywood that did not meet safety standards were incorporated into these beautiful semi-arches in the eating space (that we got to eat underneath)

    • Kept the wooden planks below the skylights in tact despite being advised against it. To give that interesting slate look when the sun beamed down at certain hours of the day

  • Widely popular spot in Tasmania for locals and tourists alike - the place was buzzing with activity on New Year’s Eve.
