Tofu Village
Verdict: Run
Has a special place in my heart. Whenever I land from a big trip, this is usually my first stop if it’s open - so comforting. The kimchi is also out of this world (more of the young, crunchy kind). My fav Korean stew spot in all of Toronto.
Item: Soon Tofu Stew, Seafood Pancake, Kalbi Ribs, Bulgogi
Cost: 18$ for soon tofu, combination where you get 2 dishes is about 33$
Comments:
Easily my favourite kimchi in Toronto; I can’t get enough of it… so much I asked the family owned business if I could buy a tub of it for takeaway
The seafood and beef combination soon tofu is the best thing on the menu - it’s got an incredibly flavourful seafood broth with clams, shrimp, and shreds of beef, piled with tons of soft tofu and purple rice on the rice
Get the seafood pancake.
This is the kind of spot that reminds you of home cooking, but you can taste the refinement on the palette regarding how well everything is balanced and harmonizes with each other
Another plus about this place are that the side dishes are a little different from most Korean spots you’ll go to - we have cold medium firm tofu, bean sprouts in sesame oil, marinated soy beans, and fresh style kimchi
We often come here right after a big trip and when we want something hearty to bring us back to Toronto - comfort food <3
