Lambert Estate Wines
Verdict: Run
Although one of the youngest winery families in the area, they sure deserve to be mentioned in the same room as the greats. Fantastic spectrum of wine, including their more experimental & creative blends. Amazing wine tasting experience where we not only learned more about the wine & terroir of Barossa Valley, but its significance to Australian culture.
Type: Winery
Location: Barossa Valley, Australia
Must Try Items: Wine Tasting, but particularly their shiraz/syrah grapes
Cost: $15 AUD per person
Comments:
One of the youngest wineries in the Barossa Valley, but you certainly cannot call them inexperienced.
Beautiful grounds and decked out infrastructure that clearly shows an engineer spec-ed it out (Jim - one of the founders - is an engineer)
We were so well taken care of by Gavin. He guided us through all the various wines and their histories - I swear he has the answer to life, because he knows everything else. He eloquently weaved in stories of the family behind the winery, Australia’s geography - which influences the wine - and can’t forget his cheeky humour, especially when it came to poking fun on where we & our fellow wine-tasting couple were from.
It’s so hard to pick our favourites, but their Silent Partner (Cabernet Sauvignon), PS I Love You (Petite Syrah) and The Commitment (Shiraz) were ones we kept going back to.
They have a stellar selection that span the whole spectrum of whites to deep rounded reds, even some experiments that really worked (The Black Sheep & The Chocolatier).
We learned so much and bemoaned the fact that we couldn’t bring any bottles back home with us (the cons of being traveling nomads).
To our friends back in Canada, you’re in luck because Lambert Estates ships their ware to beautiful Quebec.
To our friends in Singapore, … we need to be a little patient. It’ll be well worth the wait.
Shoutout to Trailhopper and our guide Nate for bringing us out to the Barossa Valley and sharing all your wine knowledge! We loved the hop on and off experience. Check out some of the other wineries we went to: Yalumba & Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop.
