Yalumba

Run

The infamous Caley

Verdict: Run

What else would you expect from the oldest wine-making family in Australia other than the highest sophistication and mastery? In addition to the delicious wine, the grounds are beautiful with iconic clock tower. The Caley of the Barossa Valley is a splurge, but it’s a must-try for true wine connoisseurs.

Comments:

  • Oldest family-run winery in Australia, with their iconic clock tower (that took 60 years to build by hand). You’ll see this clock tower everywhere as an emblem of the area.

  • Quite a few wine tastings to choose from, depending on your wine preference. At our table, we had the Rare & Fine, the Samuels Collection, and the Best of Barossa.

  • J had to try The Caley, so we were able to add it onto the Rare & Fine, instead of opting for the much more expensive Caley Vertical tasting. It was hands down the best of the bunch.

    • It came with a little book detailing it’s history and uniqueness

  • Since we were on a wine tour (with Trailhopper, shoutouts to them + Nate!), we needed some food to balance things out. The Cooper’s Platter was larger than expected, but we demolished it. It came with two types of cured meat, sour dough bread, wafers, olives, fresh and dried apple, two types of cheeses, olive oil, and a spiced seasoning. Exactly what we needed to keep us going on the hop on and hop off experience (check out some of the other wineries we went to: Lambert Estate Wines & Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop).
