Run

Local pork tenderloin tonkatsu 180g from Chiba - 1200 JPY

Our Verdict: Run

The best fried tonkatsu we had in Japan during our trip to the Kansai region. There is a decent queue but the wait is well worth it. Fried to crispy perfection with the inside still being pink + served with an ice cold beer = wow.

Comments:

  • The pork tenderloin tonkatsu was for us a better choice than the TokyoX special one because it was less fatty so you could really enjoy the flavours and meaty texture while it was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside

  • There was a decent wait for us at approx 30-45min + waiting 15-20min inside for our food, but it was all worth it in the end

  • When you pair this kind of fatty food with a nice cold beer to wash it down, it just hits differently

  • We loved how there were so many sauces and combinations we could try such as pickled peppercorns, wasabi paste, olive oil, sea salt, fermented chilli paste, etc

  • The cabbage is definitely necessary so you can balance out the loin

  • Overall, a super memorable experience run by what seems to be a couple that owns it with some helpers - food quality is super high and worth travelling to get

  • Note: the menu changes every day based on availability of locally sourced pork from different prefectures in Japan
