Tsukiji Fish Market

Verdict: Walk

Type: Market

Location: Tokyo, Japan

Address: 及び6丁目一部, 4 Chome, Tsukiji, Chuo City, 〒104-0045 Tokyo, Japan

Must Try Items:

  • Tamago - 150Y

  • Various nigiri in the market

Comments:

  • Tsukiji Market, once the bustling hub of Tokyo's seafood trade, has now transformed largely into a tourist attraction. While the famous tuna auctions, which drew countless visitors every morning, have moved to the new Toyosu Market since October 2018, Tsukiji still retains its charm.

  • The outer market remains a vibrant area where tourists can explore a variety of shops and restaurants offering fresh seafood and other culinary delights. There is a ton of variety; you will be full after a long day at the market sampling all different kinds of things!

  • Most of the food is ‘good’ by any standard (as in nothing was bad or horrible), however we don’t think that the top foods exist here. It’s a volume for the vendors.

  • We would still go back and spend 1-2 hours if we were close by, but much prefer the other fish markets in other cities
