Tsurutontan Soemoncho

Run

Local Chicken Udon - 1180 JPY

Our Verdict: Run

Easily the best udon restaurant we had when we visited Japan. This is one for the books that we will remember for a long time. Worth a queue - try a bunch of different kinds… but the chicken one is by far my favourite.

Comments:

  • This is easily our favourite udon restaurant in the Kansai region after having sampled udon from Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara

  • For the chicken udon, the richness but cleanliness of the broth was really what stole the show for us… as well as the incredible bouncy noodle texture and tons of of chicken thigh chunks

  • The white sesame udon dish is also quite unique and the flavours are very punchy so it feels like a heavier dish than the chicken udon one

  • The bowls are also quite large and we felt like it was not very expensive, thus, this place ranks high of the value for money scale

  • If you are escaping the cold during autumn or winter, there’s nothing like a bowl of this udon to help keep you cheerful and warm
