Raohe Night Market

Verdict: Walk

Second largest night market in Taipei has tons of variety and will be a fully sensory experience. Liked a few dishes but overall felt mediocre quality. Come for novelty.

Busy market filled with people

Comments:

  • Night markets are quintessential when you’re visiting Taiwan, and so, what I looked forward to the most on our trip

  • It’s definitely an experience I’d recommend you try at least one - cacophony of sounds, smells, & sights - and there are lots of night markets to choose from. Each with its own vibe and selection of Michelin rated eats. Raohe is apparently the city’s second most popular night market.

  • In our group, we tried about 10 different stands, sharing so we could all try a bit of everything. It’s tough to identify the specific stands, but here’s a list of foods we’d recommend to try:

    • Various skewered meats grilled to perfection in their giant urn oven

    • Crispy pork with the crunchiest & fluffiest skin I’ve ever seen in my life

    • Peanut and Cilantro Ice Cream Roll -> yes you heard that right. It’s a thin pancake with peanut brittle shavings and 3 scoops of ice cream (peanut, taro, and pineapple), topped with cilantro, then rolled up. My favourite of everything we tried tonight!

    • Braised pork rice (lu rou fan) and the noodle equivalent

  • Wished we waited in line to try to the famous black pepper buns at Fuzhou Shizu, but we had entered in the opposite side of the market and had other plans that night.

  • Easiest method of payment throughout the night was cash
